A PLoS Medicine study matched 5,495 older adults who fell against 5,495 who did not, in cohorts across China, the UK and the US. Physical function, mood and memory were already diverging up to five years before the fall.

Late dinners and skipped breakfasts tracked dementia risk
A Japanese cohort of 283,166 people aged around 73 linked two ordinary habits to later dementia: eating within two hours of bed, and missing breakfast. Both associations were modest, and neither was tested as a cause.

Plant protein tracked lower death rates, animal did not
A Spanish cohort of 17,989 university graduates, average age 38 at the start, had their diets recorded twice over 12 years. The quarter eating the most plant protein had a 35% lower death rate. Animal protein showed no association.

Weekend workouts tracked bone health as well as daily ones
Two national datasets, 6,972 Americans and 52,989 Britons wearing wrist monitors, compared people who cram exercise into one or two days with those who spread it out. Bone density was similar, fractures slightly rarer in the weekend group.
